Last Christmas, we had a technology-free Christmas that involved North Face jackets and Dover books.
I discovered her jacket was missing when she came downstairs dressed for school in my jacket, which she had not asked if she could borrow. Her jacket was last seen in early 2012. It had been missing for at least six months before
She also recently ruined her cell phone in a fit of rage.
And to top it all off, the hoodie I bought her at the Salvation Army just last week, got left at her last volleyball game.
I was steamed. So, I lectured her about her inability to care for her belongings and her spoiled rottenness. I also told her she owed me mucho buckso, for the repair cost of the phone, the replacement cost of her jacket, and the $2.50 I spent on the hoodie.
Next, I started making phone calls. I started with the grandmothers. I called my mom on her birthday, which also happened to be the Feast of the Little Flower and asked if by any chance had we left the jacket there in March, and not discovered it in our dozen or so trips to STL since then. She said she hadn't seen it, but that I should ask Lucy's guardian angel to tell her where it is.
That night when I picked Lucy up from volleyball practice, I sent her back into the gym to get the left-behind hoodie. We had a "discussion" about the location of the lost and found box. She claimed it was in the cafeteria, but I know the Athletic Department has their own box.
She finally went back in and came out with the hoodie and said,"I found the box and my hoodie was on top, and when I picked it up, guess what was underneath?" as she waved the missing North Face around with glee.
This event happened on the eve of the Feast of the Guardian Angels.
Fist Bump to the Angels, and St. Therese too.
