Theme Thursday: Freedom

Last year, Peter went on this amazing Civil War trip that included Gettysburg, Shiloh, and ended at Washington DC on the 4th.  This is the United States Marine Corps War Memorial better known as the Iwo Jima Memorial, July 4th, 2012.

Every year, our tiny village puts on a very respectable 4th of July parade.  These are the Vietnam Vets on parade in 2011.  We didn't get the camera out to photo them this year.

Now, I missed the parade last year.  I think it conflicted with naptime or salad making time or something.  And I didn't see my favorite parade participant this year, but here is a photo of the Flaming Skull from 2008.

Nothing says "America is the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave" like a giant Flaming Skull with a gold tooth.

New parade route this year put our home closest of all our friends and family.  Just a block and a half away, we sit on the curb and watch the kids catch candy.  Don't forget to stand up when the flag passes by!

There's Edmund in the glasses and lots of other children of Villa Park residents, past and present.

Lastly, I give you my own little Firecracker.  She skinned her knee after Church this morning and wailed all the way home, "I'm DYING!" It was quite tragic.  But now, she is asleep and that is what Freedom means to me lately.

  1. Oh, the woes of a 2yr old. For sure, frank would have asked if it needs to be amputated. He's a goof. Freedom? I want to go to there!

  4. I am not one for parades, but then I have never been to one with a flaming skull with a gold tooth. That might change my mind. Happy Fourth of July.
