Theme Thursday: Statues and Knots

She promptly named them "Jack and Jill."

These figures sit outside the cottage near the bluff where we go to watch the sunset in Michigan.

This was our view in the other direction.

This little guy is Patrick's patron saint.  I think his grandmother gave him this little statue for his Confirmation?  maybe?  The top of his crook is long gone.  The rest of him is still here because he is hand-carved wood.  Wood statues have the most life in my humble opinion.

There's part of sticker on the bottom that says "Goldscheider Italy."  Every now and then, I do another ebay check for more figures like this one.  No luck to date.

Last week's theme was Knots.  Here you can see Susan and Lucy working on hand-knotted friendship bracelets, in front of knotty pine walls.  You'd think if you put your hand on those boards that they would be rough, but they are actually silky smooth.

  1. I agree about wood statues; they really do seem the most lifelike.
I'm voting "cute", but just because J is a doll!

  2. I agree about the wood statues, but I have such a soft spot for those ephemeral chalk ones.

  3. Of course they're "Jack and Jill", who else could they be? Hansel and Gretel? ;)
And, Wow, the detailing on St. Patrick is amazing!

  8. Wood statues, FTW. They're the only ones that have any chance of surviving in our house.

  9. Oops, clicked publish too quickly. I love your littlest one and her friends, Jack and Jill. :) And friendship bracelets = rite of passage for teenagers.

  10. Wow, you don't really find wood statues these days! Our diocese paper ran a story on a 90 year old man who carves wood statues and then at the end of the article when I was ready to find out how I could buy one they say that he doesn't make statues anymore, just simple reliefs. It was such a let down.
