WWRW! We're BAaaAaack!

I do read your links.   I really do.  Even if I'm only getting 1.5 bars of cell reception on my phone on the balcony of the room on Lake Michigan.  I'm so sorry if I didn't comment on all of them.

Mary Kate reviewed Erik Larson's In the Garden of Beasts a few weeks ago.  WWII.  EPIC!  I rarely read adult books, even more rarely do I read non-fiction...shudder.  This was both.  It took me over a week, but I really savored it.  Patrick read it in two days, and we could not stop talking about it.  Who we liked, who we didn't.  Why.  How it's like today.  What would we have done?  What are we going to do?  Seeing Ambassador Dodd caution the entire Third Reich THROUGH the LENS of HISTORY!  EPIC!

Then I read Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus.  Can you read that quote at the top of the book?

"This is a marvellous book."  Audrey Niffenberger

Audrey Niffenberger wrote one of my desert island books.  I took her word for it and was not disappointed.

For an adult romance, it is not graphically violent, or overtly sexual.  It is incredibly descriptive, beautiful prose, and pages and pages of depictions of the most delicate and intricate circus acts.  Prismatically wonderful.  Yet all in black and white.

I'd almost let my teen daughters read it.  Almost.  There is one corset ripping scene of passion, upon which the curtain falls, as all great love scenes should end.  Lots of tarot readings, but in French and I never took French.  A minor character reveals her true love was another woman.  Even so, it was a truly exquisite and magical story, just what I needed after nine days In the Garden of Beasts.

A Great Big Fat Thank You to Lotus who pulled off a WWRW post at the tender age of 11.  I see great things in store for that girl.
